Dr. Charles Lobaito’s presentation, Emotional Dynamics of Memory Recall Pertaining to the Mandela Effect, shares the findings from his dissertation research at Grand Canyon University. This qualitative descriptive study explores how individuals emotionally respond to and cope with alternative memories associated with the Mandela Effect. Dr. Lobaito recruited 59 participants through the Amazon Mechanical Turk platform, specifically targeting Master Workers. He selected ten individuals from this pool for in-depth Zoom interviews to examine their emotional and psychological reactions to memory discrepancies. Cognitive assessments were also conducted to analyze participants’ memory accuracy and understanding of the inconsistencies they encountered. The study revealed a range of emotional responses, including surprise, confusion, and amusement, alongside various coping mechanisms participants used to reconcile conflicting memories with known reality. These findings illuminate the complexities of memory recall, showing how emotional and psychological factors shape how individuals process such experiences. Dr. Lobaito’s work contributes to broader discussions on the nature of memory, perception, and emotional resilience by examining the Mandela Effect through memory. His presentation will dive into these emotional dynamics and their implications within psychology, offering a fresh perspective on how memories and alternative realities affect individual cognition and emotional well-being.
