The Mandela Effect is a phenomenon where a group of people believe an event happened, when in fact it did not. The term was first coined by Fiona Broome in 2009, and named after the famous former South African President Nelson Mandela. Broome and many others falsely remember Mandela’s death in the 1980s, when in fact he was incarcerated until 1990 and passed away in 2013.
