The Mandela Effect: Fake Mandela theory

The fake Madiba or fake Mandela theory is based in understanding what is known as the Mandela effect, which refers to a situation in which a large mass of people believe an event occurred when it did not. The term originated from Fiona Broome, after she discovered that she, along with a number of others, believed that Nelson Mandela had died in 1985.

The theory claims that South Africans performed 67 minutes of charity to pay respect to the real Madiba, and that the apartheid government installed an impersonator named Gibson Makanda to play Madiba. Moreover, the allegations claimed that Gibson was the man who negotiated the end of Apartheid and would be the first South African democratic president.
